Pleated leather, leather box or patent leather, what's the difference?Updated a year ago
The Soline sandals are in patent leather, the Nadège moccasins are in pleated leather and the Bérénice ankle boots are in box leather.
These are so-called "pellicle" leathers, meaning that a layer is applied to the leather to give it a finish.
Patent leather
Often similar in thickness to boxed leather, only with a very shiny, smooth finish. Because of its finish, this leather is more easily protected from the rain and requires no special maintenance.
Pleated leather
Also known as Naplak leather, it has a patent and pleated finish and the base of the leather is not pleated.
Box leather
This is a thick leather with a patent but matte finish. This film protects the leather and makes it more water-resistant. It doesn't need waxing, nourishing or waterproofing.
Because of their finish, these leathers are more likely to be marked in the curvature of the instep.
